KROHNE ultrasonic flowmeters are based on the time-of-flight method. This method consists of two diagonally opposed ultrasonic sensors which function alternately as transmitters and receivers.


This sound signal alternately emitted from both is at once accelerated by the flow and slowed down by the flow. The difference in the time the signal requires to travel the measured section is directly proportional to the mean flow rate from which the volumetric flow can be calculated.
